About TickPlay

What is TickPlay?

TickPlay is a standalone offline music player for Apple Watch. You transfer your own audio files to the watch and play them from watch storage, so you can listen without carrying your iPhone and without a streaming subscription.

Do I need my iPhone to listen?

No. Once your files are on the watch, playback does not require the iPhone to be nearby or switched on. A paired iPhone is still needed to install and update the app from the App Store, and a computer is needed for the initial file transfer.

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No. TickPlay has no account, no sign-in and no subscription. It plays files you already own, and there is no cloud library or streaming catalogue involved.

Does TickPlay stream music from the internet?

No. TickPlay is built around local playback. Music comes from files you transfer to the watch over your local Wi-Fi network, not from an online service.

Formats and files

Which audio formats does TickPlay support?

TickPlay plays MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV and M4B natively, and plays FLAC, OGG, Opus, WMA and APE through its built-in decoder engine.

Does TickPlay support FLAC?

Yes. FLAC is decoded by TickPlay's built-in engine, so lossless FLAC files play on the watch without being converted first.

Can TickPlay play video?

Yes. TickPlay plays MP4, M4V, MOV and 3GP video files stored on the watch, and you can return to audio playback without restarting the app.

What happens with formats that are not supported?

Some containers, such as MKV and AVI, can be transferred to the watch and stored, but they will not play. TickPlay separates 'plays' from 'stores only' so you know in advance which files will work.

How do lyrics work?

Lyrics come from a .lrc file with the same name as the track. Transfer it alongside the audio and TickPlay loads it automatically, scrolling the current line centred and highlighted. UTF-8 and GB18030 encodings are supported.

Transferring music

How do I transfer music to my Apple Watch?

Put the watch and your computer on the same Wi-Fi network, start an HTTP file server in your music folder on the computer (python3 -m http.server 8000 is enough), then open the Download tab in TickPlay, scan the server, and download the folder.

What software do I need on my computer?

None beyond a file server. TickPlay works with any HTTP file server on macOS, Windows or Linux. There is no companion desktop app, no iTunes and no cable.

What happens if a transfer is interrupted?

Files that already finished stay intact. Scan the server again and only the missing files are downloaded, so you never have to start a large transfer from the beginning.

Can I transfer several folders at once?

The Download screen browses one remote folder at a time. You can select everything inside that folder and pull it all down in a single pass, then browse the next folder.

Storage and playback

How much music can I store on the watch?

You choose a storage quota of 500 MB, 1 GB or 2 GB in Settings. TickPlay stays within the quota you pick, and you can clear the cache manually at any time.

Does music keep playing when the screen turns off?

Yes. Background audio continues after you lower your wrist or leave the app, which is what makes TickPlay usable during a workout, a walk or a commute.

Can I change the playback speed?

Yes. Long-press the speed button to choose a rate between 0.5x and 2.0x. Your last choice becomes the default for the next session.

Do I need headphones?

Yes, for private listening. Apple Watch plays audio through Bluetooth headphones or a connected speaker. TickPlay does not change how watchOS routes audio.

Does TickPlay remember where I stopped?

Yes. Playback resumes from the exact position you stopped at, rather than restarting the track.

Privacy and support

Does TickPlay collect my data?

No. TickPlay has no account, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Media stays on the watch and is never uploaded. The App Store privacy disclosure is listed as 'Data Not Collected'.

Why does the app use the network at all?

Network access is used only for the file transfer you start yourself over your local Wi-Fi network. TickPlay does not contact any server on its own.

How do I delete TickPlay's data?

All data is stored locally on your Apple Watch. Deleting the app from the watch removes all of its data. You can also clear the cache from Settings inside the app.

What are the system requirements?

TickPlay requires watchOS 10 or later, on Apple Watch Ultra 3, Ultra 2, Ultra, Series 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 or SE. A paired iPhone is required to install and update the app.

How do I get support?

Email zfwkqns@gmail.com with your Apple Watch model, your watchOS version, a description of the issue and the steps to reproduce it. Screenshots help as well.
